Distophia
The very first incarnation of Distophia emerged in Birmingham in 1994 when an eleven year old Pete Dixon misheard a winning combination on daytime TV-staple Countdown and decided that Distophia was a great name for a band (the actual winning word was Dystopia but was altered in translation by the dyslexic soon-to-be front man). At this point there was nothing else except the name and a list of influences and formative listening that included Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement and Sebadoh. Over the following nine years there were changes of personnel but a constant musical design ethic – to incorporate golden melody with vast, raging dissonance – until a final line up was settled upon: Pete Dixon (vocals, guitar), Sebastian Lenton (bass), Tom Whitfield (drums) and John Biggs (vocals, guitar). |
